I’ve had an interested in computer, mobile and network security for a long long time, at least dating back to Digital Rights Management and copy protection on gaming consoles such as the Playstation, Xbox and PSP.

During my studies, I deepened my security knowledge through shows like Hak5 and security / malware news feeds such as security.nl. I became student assistant and developed the practical course for Privacy and Security, demonstrating practical security topics such as buffer overflow exploitation, Wifi pentesting, sql injection and exploit development.

I deepened my security research during my in my bachelor thesis about RFID Fuzzing with Melanie Rieback. I’ve always kept my knowledge of security close whilst progressing my career as a software engineer and have been a strong advocate of solid security practices, regular pentesting, proper use of hardware tokens, PGP and secure messaging ever since.

When new hacks are reported out I love reading the technical details on how attacks were planned and planted, as these sometimes read like the most exciting espionage novels and teach a great deal about trust and carefulness which sometimes makes me get borderline paranoia about security.
