Use Creative Commons tools to help share your work. Our free, easy-to-use copyright licenses provide a simple, standardized way to give your permission to share and use your creative work — on conditions of your choice. You can adopt one of our licenses by sharing on a platform, sharing your work with an open license, or dedicating your work to the public domain.
I like the create commons licenses over other for open source because of the clearness and readability of their definitions.
examples
- I often used CC BY to allow others to use my photography for whatever they want as long as they give appropriate credit
- for my notes in the mind vault i’ve chosen for CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 to avoid commercial use of my notes and make sure that derivative works stay as open
- for source code on my github I’ve often used MIT but would actually like using CC0
