We really enjoyed this concert at the westergas terrein Fabrique Des Lumières. It was very early, and very short. In any other case this slot would have been taken by the warm up act, but after Gidge there was another full price concert of Colin Benders.
That didn’t spoil the fun for us. Having 3 young kids it takes quite a bit of planning to get a date night sorted and the short and sweetness was actually perfect. We’re big fans of gidge, we know all the albums by heart so it was a “feest der herkenning” as we recognised almost all tracks, save for 1 or 2 new songs and the improvisation at the end.
I loved that ending work, it was clear the duo had a lot of fun bringing a little more expression into an otherwise mostly immaculate studio-like album playback with live effect and synth manipulation.
The visuals were really something else, I liked that the whole venue was glued together by the full surround visuals, even ordering a drink kept you in the experience. The contrast with their own misty woods photography brand style was quite high. I can imagine the spacy geometric visualisers work better for the ADE audience and suited the venue well, but when we got home we took out the vinyl records to adore their great taste for photography. Still, well done and always love to see this act born out of the awesome atomnation label!
