Didn’t attend this hacker conference, actually I didn’t even know of its existence until it had started and I read an article in the NRC about it. The 2025 edition was very close to us, hosted near alkmaar. I’m glad the conf was well recorded, there are a couple of talks that were quite interesting. I might see if I can attend this conference when it comes back in a couple of years
highlighted talks
- building bitchat and offfline first protocols for and e2e encrypted social apps with nostr / MLS - https://media.ccc.de/v/why2025-71-building-bitchat-offline-first-protocols-and-e2e-encrypted-social-apps-with-nostr-noise-and-mls
- closely following the developments around white noise MLS client already and interested in the addition of BLE meshes in addition to Meshtastic (lora) and decentralised communication with Nostr
- building a mailserver in 2025 https://media.ccc.de/v/why2025-190-your-own-mailserver-2025-edition
- thought about doing this but was hesistant as I’m afraid my emails would get stuck in spam filters
- synology disk station manager recovery mode and data recovery https://media.ccc.de/v/why2025-66-synology-disk-station-manager-dsm-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly#t=222
- as an avid user of synology products I already suspected that the innards would not hold up to scrutiny (im looking at you confusing backup and encryption mechanisms) but finding that the factory settings don’t actually erase data and that being a good thing in ransomware recovery cases soothes my soul
- postmortem of what happened to XS4all after they were acquired by KPN https://media.ccc.de/v/why2025-13-postmortem-xs4all#t=208
- sad story of good intentions and the downfall of a great brand and ethos
