Extraoadinary movie. As said in many other reviews, not perse an easy movie to watch. Interesting choice of photography, almost square frame and black and white. Beautifully shot, quite lynchian cinematography. The acting stood out, both characters are amazingly played, the use of old english language and marine slang is a joy to unravel. Impressive monologs from both actors. I love how the film is sort of a horror film without being very gruesome or graphically horrific, most horror is implicit and depending on the interpretation of the meaning behind the scenes. It made me think how hard life must have been back then and how to overcome such a seemingly boring and desolate life as a lighthouse keeper.
